• Observations

  The Zagora Desert is much more arid and rocky with fewer and smaller dunes than Merzouga, but it’s closer to Marrakech. It is a recommended option for travelers who want to enjoy a night in tents but don’t have enough time to travel to Merzouga. For the rest, our 3-day Merzouga excursion is strongly recommended. Itinerary

2-Day Trip to the Zagora Desert

Day 1
Marrakech · Aït Ben Haddou · Zagora

Pick up at your accommodations in Marrakech at 7:30 in the morning.

Head to Aït Ben Haddou, a World Heritage site and one of the best ksars because of its exceptional state of conservation and being a setting for famous films (Gladiator, The Mummy and Babel among others). Walking tour around the ksar and free time.

Then on the way to the desert of Zagora, we pass through the port of Ait Saoun and the Draa Valley. Once in Zagora, we go to the accommodations to leave our luggage.

Then, we take a camel ride in the Zagora desert.

Return to the accommodations. Dinner.

Day 2
Zagora · Draa Valley · Ouarzazate · Marrakech

Breakfast. On the second day, on the way back to Marrakech, we cross the High Atlas along one of the highest roads in all of Morocco, crossing the Tichka Pass and see the beauty of typical Berber villages.

We pass by thousands of date palms as we make our way along the verdant, 200-kilometer-long (125 mile-long) Draa Valley. There we will also visit the Oulad Othmane Kasbah.

We also make a stop at Ouarzazate, known for its film industry.

Then, we drop you off at your accommodations in Marrakech at around 7:00pm. End of tour.
