Fez and Desert Culture Tour
Arrival at the Fez airport (flight arranged by the traveller), private pick-up and transfer to the riad.
Breakfast. Today we see the oldest of the imperial cities, starting with a panoramic visit from the lookout, where we see both the modern and the old city. We continue visiting the modern area, appreciating places such as the gates of the Royal Palace, the Bab Jeloud or the Jewish Quarter.
Once the contemporary zone is finished, we walk the medina of Fez on foot, like a journey through time, we see the ancient madrassa of Bou Inania, as well as the districts of the different artisans: goldsmiths, carpenters, loom workers, ending in the famous tanneries.
Afternoon free. Dinner included.
Breakfast and head to Ifrane, also known as the Moroccan Switzerland thanks to its Alpine aesthetic. Then we move on to Volubilis, and with the help of a local guide we visit the best preserved Roman site in all of North Africa.
Our next stop is Azrou, crossing the cedar forests of the Middle Atlas.
Head to Midelt. Dinner included.
Breakfast and head to Merzouga with brief stops en route.
The most notable stop is Erfoud, also known as “The Gateway to the Desert ” for being considered one of the last urban footholds before the high desert. We get a chance to see quarries of marine fossils millions of years old.
In Merzouga, we leave the 4×4 behind and take a camel ride to our desert camp. We recommend bringing a backpack with a change of clothes. Bringing a suitcase is not feasible on this trip. We enjoy dinner with live music and sleep in Berber tents.
Sunrise in the desert. Today we ride camels until we reach the inn where our rooms are and where we have breakfast. Free time to wash up and meet up with the diver to head to the fossil excavation site.
Continue to Khamlia. Arrival with welcome from local music groups and welcome tea. Free time then head to Rissani, where we can see the city with its typical market.
Free time for lunch and return to the accommodations in Merzouga. Dinner included.
Early risers can enjoy the desert sunrise. After breakfast we head back to the vehicle.
Today’s finish line is Meknes, but not before crossing Midelt and the mountains of the Middle Atlas, also making another stop for lunch at a place of your choice (not included).
Head to Meknes. Dinner included.
Breakfast and panoramic visit with a view of the 40 kilometers (25 miles) of walls that surround and protect this imperial city.
Then walk to the medina, knowing the Bab Al Mansour, the Cara subterranean prison and the peculiar supply market.
Afternoon free. Dinner included.
