3-day Marrakech to Merzouga Tour

Day 1
Marrakech · Aït Ben Haddou · Dadès Gorges

Pick up at your accommodations in Marrakech at 7:30 AM and head to the Dades Gorges. This drive along one of the highest highways in North Africa features the breath-taking scenery of the Atlas Mountains and takes to the Tizi n’Tichka Mountain Pass.

Next stop: the fortified town of Aït Benhaddou declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1987. We have lunch with one of the most iconic places in Morocco as our backdrop.

Next, we explore the patchwork of villages, gardens and olive groves around the Skoura Palm Grove. Then, we head to the Dades Gorges, a group of rugged rock formations and ravines.

Arrival at our accommodations and check-in. Dinner.

Day 2
Dades Gorges · Erfoud · Merzouga

Breakfast and outing to the desert of Erg Chebbi. On the way we pass by the ruggedly beautiful landscapes of the Palm Grove and the Todra Gorges, a favorite of rock climbers.

Next, we arrive at Erfoud, and if time permits, we enjoy a beautiful sunset in the high desert.

In Merzouga, we leave the 4×4 behind and take a camel ride to our desert camp.

We recommend bringing a backpack with a change of clothes. Bringing a suitcase is not feasible on this trip. We enjoy dinner with live music and sleep in Berber tents.

Day 3
Merzouga · Ouarzazate · Marrakech

Early risers can enjoy the desert sunrise. After breakfast we head back to the vehicle.

We make a few brief stops on the way back, including the town of Ouarzazate where we will visit another World Heritage Site, the Kasbah of Taourit, former residence of one of the most powerful men in the region. We visit the grounds as well as the palace itself.

Arrival at Marrakech (around 7:00 pm). End of tour.

Please don’t hesitate to inquire about any adjustment you want to make to this itinerary (number of days, places to visit, departure location, etc.).

You can also add an extra day to this trip. Here’s the upside if you do:

The return trip would be more relaxed with more time to enjoy interesting spots along the way.

After spending the night in the desert, you could have an easy morning and enjoy the scenery, then head back to the car after lunch.

The third night could be spent in a 400-year-old kasbah within the walls of Aït Benhaddou. A candlelit evening will make the journey back in time even more real since there is no electricity within the kasbah.

The cost varies based on how many people are in your party (prices below are per person for a double room):

Upgrade to a luxury tent
+ €50
Upgrade to an individual room
+ €150
